ANRE has designated the electricity market operator for the international coupling of the Day-Ahead market and the Intraday Market





The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has designated the Energy Market Operator M Ltd Company (OPEM) as the electricity market operator responsible to carry international coupling of the Day-Ahead market and the Intraday Market.

 

This decision is an essential step in integrating Republic of Moldova into the regional electricity market that ensures modern, transparent and non-discriminatory conditions for energy trading. International market coupling will allow a more efficient use of energy resources, contribute to price stabilization and encourage competition.

 

OPEM, a subsidiary of the Romanian operator "OPCOM", is an entity with extensive experience in managing the Day-Ahead market and the Intraday Market. The company has proven to meet all the legal requirements established by national and European legislation in the field.

 

Based on the submitted documents and the assessments conducted, ANRE determined that the company:

- has the technical infrastructure necessary to operate the trading platforms;
- complies with the principles of transparency, confidentiality and non-discrimination;
- has adequate market surveillance and cooperation capacities with European authorities, including a signed Memorandum with ACER;
- has established solid systems for clearing and settlement of transactions to be carried out within the respective electricity markets, as well as, the communication and data transfer with the transmission system operator "Moldelectrica";
- applies separate accounting for regulated activities, guaranteeing efficiency and financial transparency.

 

By this designation, ANRE reconfirms its commitment to strengthen the institutional and operational framework of the electricity market in the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with European standards, while ensuring an equidistant, rigorous and consumer-oriented regulatory process.

 

ANRE’s decision is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the energy sector, consolidate the energy security and increase the participants' confidence in the wholesale electricity market.
