The General Director of ANRE met H.E. Mr. Dereck J. Hogan, US Ambassador to Moldova





The General Director of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) met with His Excellency Mr. Dereck J. Hogan, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.

The main subjects discussed focused on the energy security of the Republic of Moldova, the current state of the energy sector, the construction of the Chisinau - Ungheni natural gas pipeline, the diversification of electricity and natural gas supply sources, as well as the identification of feasible solutions for the Moldovan energy market.

 

Mr. Veaceslav Untila, the General Director of ANRE, mentioned that the country relies fully on imports of energy. Therefore, ANRE management makes considerable efforts to strengthen the legal and methodological regulation framework and adjust the framework to the best of European practices, with the assistance of the Energy Community experts, according to the provisions of the EU’s energy "acquis communautaire”. And thus ANRE intends to create the necessary market conditions based on transparency, competitiveness and entering of new market players into the local market.

 

During the meeting the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, showed consistent interest to find out more about the structure of the energy system in the Republic of Moldova.

Other subjects discussed during the meeting were the fulfilment of commitments assumed by the Republic of Moldova regarding the implementation of EU’s Third Energy Package, restructuring the natural gas transmission system operator, the supply of natural gas to consumers in 2020, the tariffs and the evolution of the acquisition price of natural gas from the Russian Federation.

 

The participants at the meeting mentioned that the Administration Council of ANRE has adopted a series of normative acts regarding the eligible producers and the evaluation of the possible tariffs for the production of electricity depending on the renewable source technology. These tariffs will be examined and approved by the end of 2019 and will serve as a benchmark for the tenders organized by the Government of the Republic of Moldova.

 

The participants of the meeting agreed to continue the dialogue at the relevant level of experts.
