On March 12 and 13 2020 the Directors of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) met the managers of the National Gas Transmission Company “TRANSGAZ” S.A., in Bucharest, Romania, to discuss the progress of the investment project of national importance – the construction of Ungheni-Chisinau natural gas transmission pipeline.
The parties agreed that the project is now at an advanced stage of implementation.
The General Director of ANRE, Veaceslav Untila appreciated the efforts made to carry out the construction works within established deadlines, as well as, the actions taken by the Romanian partners at the end of 2019, in order to prepare the gas transmission system to operate in reverse mode that would ensure that the Republic of Moldova has access to natural gas through the trans-Balkan pipeline.
The Director General of "TRANSGAZ" SA, Ion Sterian gave his assurances that the construction works of the gas pipeline will be completed by the end May, 2020. At the same time, the representatives of the Romanian company said that there are some difficulties related to the delivery of the technical equipment from the Italian producers, due to the current health crisis in this country, and that this could generate delays.
The Romanian partners addressed also some subjects related to the provisions of the legislation on investment recovery. "TRANSGAZ" SA is currently working with an international expert that was contracted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to draft proposals on modifying the legislation that are based on the best European practices.
The Directors of ANRE, gave their assurances that ANRE will provide the necessary support and expertise to develop an appropriate legal framework, which will ensure the energy security of the Republic of Moldova.
