In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has taken a series of measures to ensure the well-functioning of the energy market and public water supply and sewerage services.

ANRE is working closely with its foreign partners, regulators, as well as, organizations where it holds member or observer status in order to determine and apply the best practices in managing the current crisis.

The information about the measures taken to prevent COVID-19 is shared with the Energy Community Secretariat, The Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA), Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), European Water Regulators (WAREG), the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and regional regulators.

ANRE monitors the activity of the energy market to ensure that the consumers are protected while the licensees have appropriate conditions to provide quality services and possibilities to diminish the risks they are currently exposed to.

One of the actions taken by ANRE in relation to COVID-19 crisis is banning the license holders from suspending energy supply services or apply penalties to consumers for non-payment of bills for electricity, heating, natural gas or drinking water. Also, during the state of emergency the inspection of the license holders and companies activity is suspended.
