On February 24, 2021, the representatives of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the European Commission (DG Energy, European Union Delegation) participated at the 6th Meeting of the EU-Republic of Moldova Sub-committee on energy, transport, environment, climate action and civil protection (cluster III). The Moldovan institutions have reported on the latest implementation of the objectives set in the Association Agreement with the European Union.
The representatives of ANRE provided a small presentation on the progress made on transposing the provisions of the Third Energy Package into secondary legislation. The decisions and normative acts approved by ANRE are in line with the requirements of the European Union (EU) and Energy Community Treaty. These normative acts would facilitate the integration of the Moldovan energy market into the European single energy market.
ANRE has also pointed out the existing challenges in the process of implementing and monitoring of the legal requirements by the regulated enterprises. The parties discussed the issue of unbundling the natural gas and electricity transmission system operators.
The European experts in energy noted that the Moldovan institutions should continue to focus their efforts on the implementation of the necessary laws on electricity and natural gas, the unbundling of electricity and gas transmission system operators as well as the development of infrastructure projects that would increase the energy security of the state.
The European officials welcomed the progress made in harmonizing the national legislation with the EU acquis and said that they would be glad to provide the necessary support. The results of the meeting will be added to the operational conclusions.
