12 May 2014

Mr. Octavian Lungu, Director of the ANRE Managing Board, attended during May 8-9, 2014 the Conference Danube Water 2014 - Water Services: From Challenges to Opportunities, held in Vienna, Austria.

The conference gathered representatives of national institutions from countries bordering the Danube (ministries, regulators, associations, local authorities): Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine, as well as representatives of the European Commission and international financial institutions.

The Conference was held under the Danube Water Program - a joint initiative of the International Association of Water Supply Companies in the Danube River Catchment Area and the World Bank - launched to support the policy dialogue and develop the capacity to achieve intelligent policies, quality utilities, sustainable services in the water and wastewater sector in the Danube region.

In this year's conference, the discussions focused on challenges and opportunities in the sector and joint solutions to make intelligent policies.  The participants had the opportunity to share the best international and regional practices.

The ANRE participation in this event is important from the perspective of the entry into force on 9/14/2014 of the new Law on public water supply and sewerage services, as well as transferring to ANRE the powers to regulate this sector.
